Why use a CPA?
Many people do not understand the difference between a CPA, an accountant, and a tax preparer. Basically, anyone can call themselves an accountant or a tax preparer. They don’t need to have a license, any training, or even a high school education. Starting in 2011, compensated tax return preparers must register with the IRS and obtain a PTIN which is simply an identification number. However, anyone can request a PTIN - no training or testing is required. A CPA, on the other hand has a 5-year accounting degree at a minimum and has passed a difficult 3-day national exam. Maintaining a state license requires 80 hours of continuing professional education every 2 years and adherence to a rigorous code of ethics. Depending on the work done, there can be additional layers of regulation.
How much will my tax return cost?
It depends. A tax return fee is based on the difficulty of the return and the time it takes to prepare it. Our minimum fee is $400.00. You may call us for a free quote on your tax return. This quote is only an estimate and an appointment may be required to review your situation completely. Even then the fee is based on the client providing the information in a reasonable format and timely matter. If we have to call and/or e-mail you or others on your behalf to obtain necessary information, the fees will be higher.
